Isărescu anunț despre cursul leu-euro: „Îl lăsăm în continuare să fie mai flexibil. Plutește cam pe unde trebuie”

The National Bank of Romania is allowing a more flexible exchange rate for the leu against the euro, as stated by Governor Mugur Isărescu. He noted that interventions in the currency market have been significantly lower this year compared to 2025, and while political instability still exerts pressure, it is less severe than in previous years. Isărescu emphasized that a floating exchange rate does not necessarily mean constant fluctuations, but rather a balance between supply and demand. The current exchange rate is around 5.2405 lei per euro, with recent movements being relatively stable. The bank is cautious about inflation impacts, as a weaker leu could increase import prices.
