Iran is set to join the New Development Bank (NDB) established by BRICS, as announced by the Central Bank governor. This move comes amid ongoing international sanctions and a lack of peace agreements with the US and Israel, prompting Iran to seek alternative financial channels. Since joining BRICS in 2024, Iran has expressed interest in becoming a member and shareholder of the NDB, which was founded to finance sustainable development projects. The NDB aims to reduce reliance on the US dollar by promoting trade in national currencies among member states. Hemmati will attend the upcoming BRICS finance ministers' meeting in India.
