Starting July 31, Romanian consumers will benefit from new rights promoting product repair over replacement, part of the EU's 'Right to Repair' initiative. This aims to reduce waste and extend product lifespan. Previously, high repair costs and lack of spare parts made replacement more appealing. The new EU rules, effective from July 31, 2026, cover various products, including washing machines and electronics, allowing consumers to request repairs from manufacturers. Repairs must be done within a reasonable timeframe and at a fair price. Warranty extensions apply for repaired products. The European Commission anticipates these rules will generate significant economic growth. An online platform for repair services will launch in 2027, and new regulations on product sustainability will follow in September 2026.
