Thorpe, a leader of the Krautatungalung people, expressed doubts about receiving a fair trial in Australia and plans to present his accusations internationally if local options are exhausted. The British monarch enjoys immunity from prosecution, complicating Thorpe's efforts, as the International Criminal Court does not recognize such immunity for heads of state. However, Thorpe cannot initiate a private prosecution there, and any UN Security Council referral would likely be vetoed by the UK.
