INTERVIU Trei milioane de persoane active nu plătesc asigurare de sănătate și „nimeni nu știe unde sunt”

For the first time, health insurance contributions cover over half of the healthcare system's funding, but around 3 million people remain uninsured. Radu Comșa, co-author of a study on health financing, estimates that at least one million of these uninsured individuals are in the country, including service providers and business administrators. The study indicates that patient out-of-pocket expenses account for nearly 28% of healthcare costs, which is significant compared to other Eastern European countries. While the health insurance fund is becoming more autonomous from the state budget, the reliance on direct payments from patients remains a challenge. The report highlights the need for long-term planning in health financing to improve the system's sustainability.
