INTERVIU „Până acum am avut secete reci, astăzi avem secete fierbinți”. Cum au dezvăluit stejarii cel mai secetos an din ultimele opt secole
A team of Romanian researchers reconstructed eight centuries of climate data in Romania using tree rings from oaks, revealing significant droughts and wet periods. The study, led by Professor Cătălin-Constantin Roibu, indicates that the driest year in the last 800 years was 1660, while 1315 was the wettest. The researchers utilized 500 wood samples and historical chronicles to correlate tree growth with extreme weather events. The findings highlight the impact of climate change, noting that current droughts are exacerbated by rising temperatures, which increase water loss in trees. The research emphasizes the importance of oaks as natural climate archives, providing insights into historical environmental conditions.
