Institutul ”Elie Wiesel” critică decizia parlamentarilor care au retrimis în comisii îndreptarea unei controverse din legea ”comemorării legionarilor”

The Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania criticized the decision of parliamentarians to send back to committees a proposed amendment to a controversial law that allowed the commemoration of the criminal Legionary movement for ten years. The proposed change aimed to replace May 14, associated with Legionnaires, with August 16, linked to anti-communist fighters. The Institute expressed disappointment over the missed opportunity to strengthen Holocaust memory in Romania, highlighting that the current law contradicts existing regulations. The legislative initiative was halted despite having positive reviews, with a surprising majority voting for its return to committees without clear justification.
