The number of companies entering insolvency in Romania has reached an eight-year high, with 3,855 new procedures initiated in the first half of 2026, marking a 12.36% increase from the previous year. This rise is attributed to stagflation, characterized by economic contraction and high inflation, leading to a 0.8% drop in GDP. Alina Popa from Coface Romania highlights the ongoing pressures on businesses, including high costs and fiscal consolidation measures. However, there is a positive trend as more companies are opting for preventive restructuring measures, with 98 new procedures initiated compared to 64 in the same period last year.
