Retail trade in Romania showed mixed results in June 2026, with a 0.5% increase from May, driven by fuel and non-food sales, while food sales declined. Adjusted figures revealed a 1.2% decrease. Compared to June 2025, retail sales fell by 5.7% in raw terms and 7.3% when adjusted. The first half of 2026 also saw a decline in retail turnover, down 5.6% overall. Fuel sales increased by 6.6%, but food and beverage sales dropped by 3.1%. The overall trend indicates a challenging retail environment, with consumers purchasing less than in previous years.
