Indicele global al sărăciei a crescut pentru prima dată în 16 ani. "Cifrele arată că 1,2 miliarde de oameni sunt într-un cerc vicios"

The global multidimensional poverty index has risen for the first time since its inception in 2010, affecting 1.2 billion people, according to the UNDP. This increase, reported in the 2026 annual report, marks a significant rise of 51.5 million individuals living in acute poverty compared to the previous year. The UNDP administrator highlighted the alarming nature of this growth, emphasizing the interconnected challenges of hunger, lack of education, and inadequate access to clean water and electricity. Over half of those affected are children, and while the overall number has increased, some countries have made progress in reducing poverty rates. Extreme poverty remains concentrated in rural areas, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, where the majority of the world's poorest reside. The report underscores the importance of collective action in addressing these challenges.
