Six individuals were sentenced to prison in China after over 200 children and staff at a kindergarten were exposed to dangerous lead levels. An investigation revealed that staff used inedible paint to enhance food appearance. Li Huifang, the kindergarten owner, received a life sentence for producing toxic food. In July 2025, authorities found high lead levels in 247 individuals after several children fell ill. The kitchen staff added harmful ingredients under Li's direction. Zhi Jinglin, the executive director, was sentenced to 15 years. The case prompted new national regulations for food safety in educational institutions.
