Fine particles in the smoke can penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream, leading to serious health issues. Studies show that exposure to wildfire smoke is linked to higher rates of respiratory hospitalizations, premature births, and increased mortality risk, particularly among vulnerable populations. The findings are relevant for Europe, including Romania, where wildfires are becoming more common.
