Starting November, a new processing fee will be applied to low-value packages from outside the EU, in addition to the existing €3 customs fee. This measure aims to cover rising costs associated with monitoring the increasing number of small parcels entering the EU. The exact amount of the new fee is yet to be determined by the European Commission. The responsibility for customs formalities will shift to e-commerce platforms, which will be considered importers, relieving individual buyers from paying the new fee upon delivery. The EU is also tightening controls on non-compliant products to protect consumers and support local businesses.
