Kristi Noem is no longer the special envoy for the 'Shield of the Americas' initiative, as her term expired last month. She now serves as a senior advisor to Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau while continuing to work on the initiative. Noem was appointed to this role in March 2026 after being dismissed from her position as Secretary of Homeland Security. The initiative aims to foster cooperation among the U.S. and several Latin American and Caribbean countries on economic issues and drug cartel combat. Her public activities as a special envoy were limited, including meetings with leaders and diplomats. Noem is the third Trump administration member to lose their position this week.
