The local council unanimously approved this decision, which will lead to the closure of existing gambling venues as their licenses expire. The initiative is supported by local parliament members and aims to redirect funds towards education. The president of the Timiș County Council, Alfred Simonis, previously stated that municipalities closing gambling venues would receive financial support for building or modernizing schools and kindergartens. In spring, Timișoara had 173 authorized gambling locations.
