Initially reported as having surrendered in Switzerland, it was later clarified that he was arrested based on a Romanian alert. Bălțățeanu had planned to escape to Mexico but ended up traveling through several European countries before reaching Switzerland. He was stopped by police in Romania prior to the discovery of the crime but was not detained at that time. The Swiss authorities confirmed his arrest and are awaiting extradition documents from Romania, which must be submitted within 18 days. The investigation continues as the extradition process is initiated to bring him back to Romania for further questioning regarding Tănăsie's death.
