The first pharmacy in Romania was documented in 1494 in Sibiu, operated by pharmacist Johannis. The development of pharmacies progressed slowly, influenced by traditional remedies and superstitions. By the late 18th century, several pharmacies existed in Bucharest, with the first private one established in 1740 by Johann Traugott Seuler von Seulen. Unique treatments were prepared, including remedies for dry cough and the plague, which involved various herbs and substances. The introduction of the Organic Regulation in 1831 mandated formal education for pharmacists, leading to increased pharmacy numbers and the establishment of the National School of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1857. The first Romanian pharmacopoeia was published in 1862, marking a significant advancement in pharmaceutical practices.
