În ce oraș a apărut prima fabrică de săpun din România? Produsul, folosit intens de români în comunism • Newsweek România

The first soap factory in Romania was established in Galați in 1886, marking the beginning of local soap production. The soap, known as Cheia, became popular during the interwar period and was widely used during communism. Its history dates back to ancient Babylon, where soap-making was practiced as early as 2800 BC. The factory, founded by Lipa Braunstein, produced various types of soap, including a military version during World War II. After nationalization in 1948, the factory became the main soap producer in Romania, adapting to the needs of the time. Despite challenges after 1990, the Cheia brand was revived in 2010 and continues to be produced today.
