Bob Marley, born on February 6, 1945, in Jamaica, died in May 1981 from a rare form of melanoma that started under his toenail. Initially misdiagnosed as a sports injury, the cancer was an acral lentiginous melanoma, which is often found in areas not exposed to sunlight. Despite medical advice to amputate the affected toe, Marley opted for a less invasive procedure. He continued to perform until the cancer spread to other organs. His last concert was in September 1980, and he sought treatment in Germany before returning to Jamaica. Marley passed away at the age of 36, with his story often misrepresented as a simple sports injury.
