The University of Bucharest Palace is regaining its former grandeur with the reinstallation of three essential sculptures, a crowned eagle and two griffins, destroyed during World War II. This event, taking place on August 8, is part of a comprehensive restoration of the building. The sculptures, originally designed by architect Alexandru Orăscu and sculptor Karl Storck between 1862 and 1869, symbolize the state's protection over knowledge and the university institution. The new bronze pieces weigh a total of 1.6 tons and were created by sculptor Alexandru Siminic. The restoration project will continue over the next two years to fully reconstruct the original design.
