The Romanian Parliament has amended the Penal Code regarding sexual abuse materials involving minors, aiming to clarify the severity of such offenses. However, the law is not yet in effect as it awaits potential review by the Constitutional Court. Legal expert Cristi Danileț highlights that while the amendment seeks to protect children, it may lead to confusing legal outcomes. For instance, consensual sexual acts between minors may not be penalized, but recording or photographing these acts could result in severe penalties. The analysis also points out inconsistencies in penalties for online offenses and the need for better alignment with existing laws to ensure child protection.
