Romania's solar energy production significantly supported the national grid amid pressure from drought and the shutdown of Cernavoda Unit 1. Solar panels contributed nearly half of the country's energy, allowing for a net export of over 1,000 MW. However, this reliance on solar energy exposes a vulnerability: after sunset, energy prices surge due to insufficient storage and flexible production capacity. While solar energy kept daytime prices low, evening prices soared, highlighting the need for improved energy storage infrastructure. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of storage solutions, citing Bulgaria's strategy of buying cheap daytime energy and selling it at higher evening rates.
