The Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy has signed a contract for the Đerdap 3 pumped storage hydroelectric project, estimated at €2.6 billion. The project aims for a capacity of up to 1,800 MW and includes a feasibility study and spatial planning. The interim minister emphasized the project's significance for Serbia's energy future, potentially becoming Europe's largest natural battery. Discussions with Romania and the American company Bechtel are ongoing. Additionally, Serbia plans to construct the Bistrica pumped storage plant, with a tender expected in 2027. The project will enhance energy security and integrate renewable sources in the region.
