Heathrow Airport has lost its title as the busiest airport in Europe to Istanbul, with a decline in passenger numbers in July. Heathrow reported 7.86 million passengers, down 1.5% from last year, while Istanbul saw an increase to 8.15 million. The airport is seeking government approval for a third runway to expand capacity to 150 million passengers annually. Despite challenges, including a 20.2% drop in Middle Eastern route traffic, Heathrow continues to operate at near maximum capacity.
