The UN is set to vote on a resolution initiated by Togo to adopt a new world map that accurately reflects Africa's size. The current Mercator projection misrepresents Africa as being similar in size to Greenland, despite it being 14 times larger. The resolution aims to phase out the Mercator map, which has been the global standard since 1569, and promote the 'Equal Earth' design from 2018.
