Romania and Bulgaria rank highest in the EU for cardiovascular disease mortality, according to Eurostat data. Cardiovascular diseases account for nearly one-third of deaths in the EU, with 1.6 million fatalities in 2023. Significant disparities exist between eastern and western Europe, with Romania and Bulgaria showing alarming rates. In Romania, all development regions report over 53% of deaths due to these diseases, particularly in Sud-Vest Oltenia at 63.8%. Bulgaria's regions also exceed critical thresholds, with Yuzhen tsentralen at 67.3%. In contrast, France, Denmark, and the Netherlands report the lowest cardiovascular death rates, with some regions below 20%.
