Harghita is set to become a European Gastronomic Region in 2027, promoting local cuisine and producers. Authorities and entrepreneurs are developing a network to highlight traditional dishes and authentic experiences. Preparations include creating a gastronomic map and thematic routes for tourists. The region aims to enhance internal tourism and establish itself as a recognized destination. Currently, 66 restaurants and 33 local producers are participating in the certification program for local gastronomy.
