MEDIAFAX requested data from the government regarding budget revenues and illegal market issues but received no response. The government modified gambling rules through OUG 7/2026, granting local authorities more power in licensing and imposing new taxes. Despite the expected revenue of 6.916 billion lei for 2026, the government has not clarified the actual revenue trends or the status of the illegal gambling market, which is estimated to be around 80% of the total market. MEDIAFAX's inquiries about the impact of these regulations and potential licensing blockages have gone unanswered, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the new measures against illegal gambling.
