Guvernul prelungește funcționarea centralelor pe lignit

The Romanian government has decided to extend the operation of lignite power plants in Turceni and Craiova beyond the previously set closure date of August 31, 2026. This extension allows Craiova units to operate until mid-2027 and Turceni 5 until early 2028. The decision is driven by a severe hydrological deficit and increased energy demand, alongside reduced renewable energy production. The government acknowledges the risk of not being able to cover potential energy deficits through imports during a regional energy crisis.
