The decision comes amid energy supply concerns following a major power outage in 2025 and geopolitical tensions affecting energy markets. A citizen group supports the extension, citing the plant's importance for energy security. Currently, nuclear energy accounts for 19% of Spain's electricity production, while renewable sources contributed nearly 60% last year, with a goal of 81% by 2030.
