Guvernatorul Băncii Naționale, anunț despre cursul leu-euro: „Îl lăsăm în continuare să fie mai flexibil. Plutește cam pe unde trebuie”

The National Bank of Romania is allowing more flexibility in the exchange rate of the leu against the euro, according to Governor Mugur Isărescu. He noted that political instability still affects the currency but to a lesser extent than last year. Isărescu emphasized that the bank's interventions in the currency market have been significantly lower this year compared to 2025. He explained that a floating exchange rate does not necessarily mean constant fluctuations, as it should stabilize based on supply and demand. The current exchange rate is around 5.2405 lei per euro, with recent movements being relatively stable. Isărescu also highlighted the impact of a weaker leu on inflation, indicating that the bank is cautious about allowing large fluctuations in the exchange rate.
