The Romanian Ministry of Economy has extended the deadline for companies to update their CAEN codes to March 25, 2027, due to low compliance rates. As of now, only 37.24% of businesses have updated their codes, despite the initial deadline of September 25, 2026. The transition to CAEN Rev. 3 was mandated by a government ordinance, and the extension aims to prevent disruptions in business operations. The minister emphasized the need for more time, especially for sectors like construction and IT, where updates can be complex. The dual use of CAEN Rev. 2 and Rev. 3 will be allowed until the new deadline, ensuring businesses can continue functioning without administrative hindrances.
