A recent study indicates that individuals with blood type A may have a slightly higher risk of stroke before age 60. The research analyzed genetic data from nearly 600,000 people, revealing that those with the A1 genetic variant had a 16% increased risk of stroke compared to other blood types. In contrast, blood type O1 was associated with a 12% lower risk. The link between blood type A and stroke risk was not significant for those over 60, suggesting different mechanisms at play in younger individuals. The study also found that blood type B carries an 11% higher risk. Experts caution that blood type is just one of many risk factors for stroke, emphasizing the importance of managing conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
