Greek tourism showed strong resilience in early 2026, with a 25.8% increase in revenue despite geopolitical tensions. Revenues reached €5.32 billion from January to May, up from €4.23 billion in 2025. May alone saw €2.43 billion in earnings, a 10.9% annual rise, alongside a 12.2% increase in foreign visitor arrivals. However, Greece's current account deficit widened to €8.9 billion during the same period. The growth in tourism reflects successful strategies to extend the tourist season beyond summer, indicating Greece's evolving image as a year-round destination. Tourism remains crucial, contributing over a quarter of Greece's GDP and supporting nearly two million jobs.
