Google has temporarily suspended its AI image generation feature in Google Earth due to concerns about potential misuse for creating false images. The tool, which generated photorealistic images from satellite and aerial data, was initially available to a limited audience. Experts warned that it could produce convincing images of non-existent events, leading to misinformation. Although the feature was used legitimately by geospatial professionals, the risk of abuse prompted its withdrawal. Google stated that the images were digitally marked and not integrated into the main Google Earth experience. The company plans to relaunch the feature only after implementing stricter controls.
