Google has been fined over 400 million euros for violating the European GDPR regarding personal data protection. The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) initiated an investigation six years ago following complaints about Google's location data processing. The DPC found that users might not have been aware of how their location information was used for ad personalization. The fine of 403 million euros is the fourth largest imposed by the DPC since GDPR's implementation. Google claims the investigation pertains to outdated practices and has since made changes to enhance user control over location data. The DPC is also conducting three other significant investigations into Google.
