Alexandru II Mavrocordat was the last Phanariot ruler of Moldavia, known as Pârlea Vodă due to a series of unfortunate fires during his reign. He ruled briefly from January 1785 to December 1786, facing political challenges and being ousted by the Sultan at Austria's request. Mavrocordat was involved in a conspiracy aimed at liberating Greeks and Romanians from Ottoman rule. After his removal, he fled to Russia, where he lived for over two decades until his death in 1819. His nickname, Pârlea Vodă, originated from the fires that destroyed his residences, while Firaris, meaning 'fugitive', was given after his escape from Moldavia.
