Romanians changing their residence can easily update their identity documents, choosing between the electronic identity card (CEI) and the simple identity card (CIS). They must apply within 15 days of moving to avoid fines. Required documents include the current ID, birth certificate, marriage certificate or divorce decree, proof of residence, and payment receipt. If the residence is registered electronically, presenting the property deed may not be necessary. Consent from the property owner is needed if the applicant is not the owner, which can be given in person or online. The CEI is free for the first issuance, while the CIS costs 40 lei, with different processing times for each.
