Ghețarii Elveției dispar într-un ritm dramatic: aproape 2.200 de miliarde de litri de apă s-au pierdut în trei luni din Alpi: "Probabil că nu vor mai exista peste 10 - 15 ani"

The Swiss Alps are experiencing severe effects of global warming, with glaciers losing nearly 20% of their volume since 2021. The year 2026 marked the second most significant ice melt recorded, with a 5.5% loss this year alone. Researchers from GLAMOS report that the rapid changes are alarming, as glaciers are losing ice at an unprecedented rate. The combination of a dry winter and an exceptionally hot summer has left glaciers vulnerable to high temperatures. The situation is dire, with predictions that some glaciers may not survive the next 10 to 15 years. The loss of glacial ice also raises concerns about future water resources, as approximately 2.2 trillion liters of water were lost between July and September 2026, significantly impacting water availability for Swiss households.
