Gheorghe Piperea cere intervenția DIICOT după scandalul de la IAR Brașov. Acuzații grave privind miliardele din programul SAFE

Gheorghe Piperea, an AUR MEP, criticized the Romanian government for prioritizing military helicopter purchases from Airbus over supporting local defense industry, following complaints from IAR Brașov unionists. He called for investigations by DIICOT and parliamentary defense committees, highlighting concerns over billions in loans from the SAFE program, which other European countries are rejecting. Piperea pointed out discrepancies between promises of local production involvement and actual practices, referencing contracts with Rheinmetall. He also criticized the lack of parliamentary debate on significant military contracts and noted that Germany has opted out of SAFE funding, raising questions about Romania's approach. Lastly, he mentioned ongoing legal challenges against the SAFE program at the EU Court of Justice.
