German security authorities are monitoring Russian disinformation campaigns aimed at influencing upcoming elections in several states. Videos targeting politicians and parties unfriendly to Russia have been circulating online. These campaigns are part of a broader hybrid threat from Russia, which seeks to deepen divisions within German society. The operation, known as Matryoshka, has been observed previously during federal elections. Upcoming elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Berlin are set for September.
