German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil urged the EU to implement stricter measures against Chinese car manufacturers, including tariffs on hybrid vehicles. He emphasized the need for a firmer approach towards China, especially as German automakers face increasing pressure from Chinese competition. Currently, the EU imposes tariffs on electric cars from China but not on hybrids. Volkswagen is undergoing significant restructuring, aiming to halve its model range by 2035 and invest heavily in development. Other German automakers like Mercedes-Benz and BMW are also facing challenges and are exploring new strategies to remain competitive.
