Munich has been officially designated as Germany's candidate for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Summer Olympics and Paralympics by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The decision was made during an extraordinary meeting in Baden-Baden, where Munich outperformed the Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr bid. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced the decision in the presence of former IOC President Thomas Bach. The Munich project focuses on modernizing the Olympic Park from the 1972 Games and emphasizes a compact concept with short distances between facilities. Local support is strong, with 66.4% voting in favor during a consultation. Munich previously hosted the 1972 Olympics, which were marred by a terrorist attack. The DOSB will now enter the IOC's international selection process, with no specific target year yet confirmed.
