Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder has joined the supervisory board of the Russian subsidiary of the German retail group Globus, as confirmed by the company. He will be involved in the overall management and strategic development of Hyperglobus in Russia. Schröder's close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his past roles in Russian energy companies have drawn criticism. The Russian subsidiary became independent from the German holding company in January 2025. Schröder served as Chancellor from 1998 to 2005 and was instrumental in the Nord Stream pipeline project with Putin.
