During his recent visit to the U.S., AUR leader George Simion attended a Romanian festival in Chicago, where he met controversial figure Constantin Ilinescu, linked to the Mineriade events. Ilinescu, who emigrated to the U.S. in 2005, was involved in organizing miners' arrival in Bucharest during the 1990 protests. Images from the event show Simion and Ilinescu together, with Simion singing a song. Both have not responded to requests for comments. Ilinescu has previously met Romanian officials in the U.S. and has faced legal scrutiny for his role in the Mineriade, although he denies any significant involvement.
