Genomul unei plante din Antarctica, cartografiat de cercetători

An international team led by Chilean scientists has created the most comprehensive genetic map of Colobanthus quitensis, one of only two flowering plants native to Antarctica. This research may aid in developing crops that withstand extreme conditions and climate change effects. The study, published in Genome Biology and Evolution, sequenced the entire genome, identifying 40 chromosomal structures. Researchers aim to find genetic traits that could enhance agricultural resilience without creating transgenic plants. The potential applications could take 5 to 10 years to develop, as the process of identifying and testing relevant genes is lengthy.
