General Motors has started supplying components for Patriot missile defense systems to Lockheed Martin amid a critical ammunition shortage in the U.S. This initiative aims to leverage automotive production infrastructure to boost weapon manufacturing. Lockheed Martin is under pressure from the Pentagon to increase ammunition production, and GM delivered its first batch of components for PAC-3 interceptor missiles in August. The Pentagon is seeking to involve more civilian companies, including automakers, to replenish U.S. weapon stocks depleted by the conflict with Iran. GM is expanding its defense division, anticipating $700 million in defense revenue this year. Lockheed has been gathering new suppliers for Patriot interceptors due to high demand, especially as U.S. stocks have been significantly reduced, leaving Ukraine vulnerable to missile attacks.
