An Italian ski resort has officially opened the winter season for 2026-2027, despite summer glacier damage in Europe. Val Senales in South Tyrol began welcoming skiers last Saturday, with limited slopes available. The resort has managed to preserve snow through summer blankets, but concerns remain about operational challenges due to surrounding bare peaks. Currently, only Val Senales and Stelvio Pass are operational in Europe, while Zermatt remains closed due to rapid snow melt. Other Austrian resorts plan to open soon, depending on weather conditions.
