In Calafat, residents continue to rely on wood stoves for heating due to the lack of natural gas access. The main gas pipeline's route is complicated by archaeological sites, delaying its construction. Authorities estimate that work on the secondary pipeline may not start until late 2027. Many families are forced to prepare for winter by stocking up on firewood, as alternatives are limited. Nationally, over 2,100 localities in Romania lack access to gas or centralized heating, affecting around 200 towns. The reliance on wood heating leads to increased expenses and concerns for families each autumn.
