In 2021, over 6,000 empty milk bottles from Shanghai were repurposed into modified polymer asphalt for road construction, addressing plastic waste recycling challenges. The initiative, led by Shiny Meadow and East China University of Science and Technology, showcased how plastic waste can be redirected for infrastructure use. Despite the recyclability of milk bottles, they often end up as waste due to residue issues. Dow's involvement in the project aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption by incorporating recycled materials into road paving. This project is part of a broader campaign across Asia to utilize recycled plastic in road infrastructure, inspiring innovative sustainability solutions among students.
